🎯 What is Order and
Ranking?
Order and Ranking questions test your ability to find the
position or rank of a person or object in a sequence, either from the start or
the end, or between two positions. These questions involve logical thinking
about sequences and comparative positions.
📝 Key Concepts
- Ranking
from the Front: Counting position from the first person/item.
- Ranking
from the Rear: Counting position from the last person/item.
- Total
Number of Persons/Items: Often needed to convert front rank to rear
rank and vice versa.
🔄 Important Formula
If the total number of persons = N, and a person’s rank from
the front = F, then
- Rank
from the rear, R = N - F + 1
- Similarly,
if the rank from the rear = R, then rank from the front, F = N - R + 1
📚 Example 1
There are 50 students in a class. Ram is 18th from the
front. What is his rank from the rear?
Solution: R = 50 - 18 + 1 = 33
Ram’s rank from the rear is 33rd.
📚 Example 2
In a row of 40 people, Mohan is 10th from the rear. What is
his rank from the front?
Solution: F = 40 - 10 + 1 = 31
Mohan’s rank from the front is 31st.
📝 Tips for Solving
- Always
note total number (N).
- Use
the formula to switch ranks from front to rear.
- Check
if the question asks for someone “between” two positions.
- Visualize
or draw a line and mark positions.
